"The Enemy" in SHOOTING AN ELEPHANT

Enemy is something that weakens or harms or it is the person who is against you and your ideas. In the story "Shooting an Elephant" by George Orwell Burmese are the enemy of the speaker as they always tend to harm him or questions at his strength by laughing at his moves. They insulted him badly only because he was a British. On the other hand British Raj being the enemy of the speaker enforced their decisions on him and want him to do whatever they wished. British Raj imposed their rules and regulations on the Burmese, this was another reason of the Burmese to dislike the speaker and the British Raj. The speaker being the enemy of his job which was of a Police officer, had to do things which were against his will. Some particulars in his job were totally against his ideas but as a part of it he has to do things which he do not intend. From the Burmese point of view the definition of enemy definitely matches but the definition differs for the speaker because an enemy would always do whatever is not good for the opponent but in this case the speaker has done this in other ways.
